Open Mic: why does it matter?

I know what you’re thinking: isn’t open mic just where beginners play Wonder Wall and Wagon Wheel? Well sometimes, yes. But, open mic is much more than that.

I became more confident in my songwriting and my ability to perform live thanks to the Steel String Brewery open mic in Carrboro, NC. Soon after I started signing up, I also began to fill in as the host, and eventually started my own open mic. The consistent positive vibe of my open mics led me to becoming a trusted member of our music community, and it led to many artists booking shows, recording records, and most importantly building friendships with their peers.

Whether it’s your first time playing in front of people, or you are an experienced musician looking to try out some ideas, it is vital to be treated with kindness and grace in these spaces.

If you’re interested in having me host at your business, I have all of the necessary gear to load -in, host the show, and load-out. Reach out to me for rates!
